Coming together to celebrate the 40 days of Lent, the students of Ecole St. Margaret School met in their school gymnasium for song, prayer and a special presentation.
Assemblies like that of Tuesday will be held at the school once a week until Easter break.
Sarah Phipps, the school’s principal, said assemblies of this nature, create the ambiance of church and bring the students together as a community.
She said the school also has its spirit assemblies, but Tuesday was about teaching the children about Lent, the meaning behind it and showing them how they can be better people.
Although many of the children have given up a number of things for Lent; such as junk food, chocolate, McDonalds, and some even technology, Phipps said some have gone the other way and are doing things for others.
“It doesn’t always have to be giving up something, it can be doing something positive as well.”
