Council defeated the budget committee’s recommendation to refer the 2013 police service operating budget back to the board of police commissioners regarding concerns over budget for staffing levels.

Coun. Dawn Luhning, Coun. Don Mitchell and Coun. Brian Swanson voted in favour of the motion. Since Coun. Candis Kirkpatrick, Mayor Deb Higgins, Coun. Patrick Boyle and Coun. Heather Eby voted against it, the motion was defeated.

Other items discussed at Monday’s meeting:

• Council unanimously passed the reports of the Feb.11 and Feb.19 executive committee meetings.

• Councillors received and filed the minutes of the recent meetings of the environment advisory committee, the housing advisory committee, the heritage advisory committee, the special needs advisory committee and the cultural diversity advisory committee. There were no items on any of those minutes requiring council approval.
