With only two more weeks until the ice fishing season comes to an end, ice shack owners are asked to begin thinking about shack removal.
Although ice fishing shacks are permitted to be on the Buffalo Pound Lake until March 15, Bonnie Green, of the Saskatchewan Association of Conservation Officers, said it is highly suggested that shack owners move their shacks before the 15th.
“We suggest to certainly have a plan to remove shacks before that date, maybe plan for a little bit sooner because with all of this extra snowfall it could be difficult to get the shacks off the ice.”
Green also wanted to remind shack owners leaving their shacks on the ice, their name and phone number must be visible on the shack or they could be subject to charges.
Also those shacks not removed by the 15th are subject to removal and again owners could be subject to charges and the ice shack being seized.
At this time Green said the ice conditions on the lake are still considered good, however, as always extreme caution is always advised when travelling on ice covered water.
