Within a timeframe of just over three days, more than 800 people have signed an online form fighting to keep the hyperbaric chamber in Moose Jaw.
“We put money into this. We don’t want to just throw it away,” said Lyle Silzer of the Associated Canadian Travelers (ACT) of Moose Jaw. “Put it in the new hospital. Don’t tell me there’s no room for it. You haven’t dug the first hole yet. Make room for it ... if it has to be updated let’s update it.”
Used for a variety of medical treatments including treating burn wounds and carbon monoxide poisoning. the chamber is the only one in Saskatchewan. The Five Hills Health Region and the provincial government announced it is not set to be in the $100-million new hospital replacing the Moose Jaw Union Hospital by 2015.
The Associated Canadian Travelers (ACT) of Moose Jaw launched a web site called Speak Up Moose Jaw to gather signatures to support keeping the chamber in Moose Jaw and getting questions answered.
A letter from provincial health minister Dustin Duncan regarding an update and addressing some concerns about the hospital can be found on page A4 of Thursday'’s edition of the Times-Herald.
