L’Ecole Ducharme played host to a fundraising dinner and concert for the school’s student travel association Saturday.
“It’s called la cabane en sucre, and it’s a traditional francophone meal, full of lots of tourtierre, ham, vegetables, pork and beans, pea soup, and then for desert we have sugar pie and gateau chomeur,” said Stephanie Gaudet, one of the event’s organizers.
“The meal is a fundraiser for the school travel club, so they’ve been here for the past three days making meat pies, decorating, cooking, chopping and doing various other things,” she added.
The event, which occurs on an annual basis, drew approximately 175 people to the school’s gym this year for the meal and a concert funded by L’association Communautaire Fransaskoise de Moose Jaw (ACFMJ), Gaudet said.
Both anglophones and francophones were invited to attend.
“We have francophones and anglophones. It’s not necessary to know the language (to attend),” she said. “We have students and parents and also quite a few friends of parents who wanted to come and try out something new.”
Gaudet said the organizers were pleased with the turnout.
“This year, we’re very pleased,” she said.
