With a high level of flooding anticipated for the spring, one of the city’s biggest concerns is the CPR dam.
“We could lose that dam at any time,” said city manager Garry McKay. “There’s a real possibility, depending on what the flood does this year with the ice, (that) we could lose the dam altogether.”
The issue was discussed at Monday’s budget committee meeting while director of engineering Mahabub Zaman and public works manager Duane Grado detailed several infrastructure projects requiring funding.
According to the engineering department’s report, the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP) has agreed to pay $286,484 for the city’s claim for 2011 flood damage of different infrastructures. The total allocation for the dam replacement project has gone down to $1.61 million in 2014.
Before the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority will approve the construction of the dam, the city either needs land control from the affected residents, or the city needs to own the property.
