TOLEDO, Ohio - A discount airline says it will start a new route between Toledo and Florida's Gulf Coast this winter.

Allegiant Air in February will offer round-trips flights twice a week between Toledo Express Airport and Punta Gorda near Fort Myers.

The Blade (http://bit.ly/11CSL1J ) newspaper in Toledo reports that the new flights will begin Feb. 16.

Airport operators in Toledo have struggled to attract carriers for the last few years, losing routes to New York and Denver. Other carriers have dropped routes to Florida and other destinations in the South.

Many travellers have been opting to fly out of Detroit where more flights are available and rates are often less expensive.
