VANCOUVER - A vehicle linked to an RCMP missing person case has been discovered, but Vancouver police have found a body in the trunk.
Burnaby Mounties issued an alert last week about the July 12 disappearance of Hong Wei Yin.
Police said the woman planned a trip to visit family in China, but didn't make her flight on July 16.
Hong is a permanent resident of Canada and worked at several massage parlours in Metro Vancouver since moving to the area three years ago.
RCMP released a description of the 33-year-old woman and of her car, which matches the license plate of the vehicle found in Vancouver Wednesday.
"Vancouver Police are investigating the city's 16th homicide of the year after a woman's body was found in the trunk of a white Toyota Corolla," Const. Jana McGuinness said in a statement.
Police were led to the vehicle after a man working nearby called 911 to report the car had been unattended for days.
"A police check of the license plate revealed that the car was associated to a Burnaby RCMP missing persons file," McGuinness said.
"Members arrived and searched the car, finding the body of a deceased woman in the trunk."
Homicide investigators are heading up the investigation and will work in conjunction with Burnaby RCMP.
An autopsy will take place over the next couple of days.
McGuinness says police have not conclusively determined the woman's name or contacted her next of kin.
