A Moose Jaw man who was arrested twice over the past weekend for masturbating in public, will spend the next six months in jail and will have to register as a sex offender until 2019.
In Moose Jaw provincial court on Monday, Judge Margaret Gordon sentenced Darrel Lang, 42, to two six-month jail terms, to be served concurrently.
As was stated in court by Crown prosecutor Rob Parker, two women exited Cornerstone Inn Pub and Eatery on Friday at about 10:12 p.m. and saw Lang outside the establishment. He had his penis exposed and he was masturbating.
The two women walked away and Lang proceeded to follow them. The women contacted local police via a cellphone and Lang was quickly arrested.
Police released Lang on an undertaking. However, on Sunday Lang went back to the zero block of Main Street North and pulled down his shorts and started masturbating again, this time near the Tunnels of Moose Jaw during business hours.
According to Parker, several people reportedly witnessed the incident, including a young child. Police again arrested Lang and he remained in custody until appearing in court.
"I'm very ashamed for what I did," Lang told the court from inside the prisoners' dock on Monday.

Seems the only way anyone can get mental health help is to be arrested.

This happens over and over, again and again.

People fall through the cracks in the system and end up being arrested and jailed.

I am aware of a young man with an intellectual disability that was advised it was best if he were arrested for a minor offence because that would be the ONLY WAY THAT HE WOULD GET SOME HELP!!

    INCREDIBLE SYSTEM!!!!

J.J., if you have a traumatic experience, wouldn't you want to make the best of it? Maybe I'm telling everyone so that they are aware of the crap that can go down nowadays! That, and instead of feeling degraded, I decided to think of myself as a hero...so there. You have no idea unless you experience it

Wally, I just noticed something. In your first post you said 'It was...degrading to have to clean it up..' Your second post you said '...instead of feeling degraded, I decided to...'
So which is it? Methinks you just like a 'good' story, and make up a few of your own along the way.

Hi Moose..I said that I did not condone nor would I defend his actions..just that there are some other reasons for him acting like this..
I also feel sorry for the child who was present, children shouldn't be seeing this happen.
I do not feel sorry for this man...he had choices to make and he obviously made the wrong choices...but I do know what put him in this position to make this particular choice.
My hope is that he can ask for and receive the help he needs while he is incarcerated..that would be the first step for him.

Sure, Wally, just doing your job cleaning up the store makes you a hero. Reiterating this guy's actions doesn't. In Dr. Phil's words, what was the payoff for you? People's reaction to the content of your story?
Oh, and if there's a next time? Maybe put on gloves and an n95 when cleaning up 'hazardous' material. WHMS should teach you that.

SN it doesn't MATTER to anyone that it was not something that he would have done normally, or that he was driven by stress...WE ARE ALL STRESSED! The fact is he did it and he is accountable adn he can't take it back...I have ZERO pity for him..I have TONS of pity for the people that were witness to this and the poor child that seen it....This person is a pig!!

I once had to clean up the deposit made by a guy in our store's greeting card isle. He went up behind a lady who was looking for a Mother's Day card, and went about his business right behind her.

It was disgusting, and degrading to have to clean it up. Even more degrading for the lady.

But I had a pretty interesting story to tell people.

Wally from____.... why would anyone dignify( no pun intended) this man's actions by telling others what he did? Beats me. Guess you weren't that degraded after all?

I'M A HERO BECAUSE I RISKED MY LIFE, CLEANING UP BIO-HAZARDOUS MATERIALS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS FOR OTHER PEOPLE!!!!

And when you say that he must have been a handfull , yes, he had been saving up for a long time. It was not pretty at all.

This is absolutely discusting! There is a lot of perverts and pedophiles in this town, and I sure would like to see a website with their faces plastered all over it, so that we can protect our children from these dispicable creeps. They should have no chances, they do something like this and it should have been dealt with and punishable the first time.

Lynn B, do you like being a hypocrite today? Yesterday you criticize me for making a masturbation joke on here, and then you go ahead and do the same.

You some kind of whack job ? Pardon the pun. Was unintentional, really it was.

I heard he was a new character at the Tunnels. He was playing the role of Al Capone's right hand man.

I know this man..and this is not an action he would have thought of a few years ago..he's been under a lot of stress plus some other problems in his life...I would believe this is what drove him to doing this.
While I am not condoning or defending his actions..I am saying that just maybe something broke inside of him..and he reacted in a very bad way.
I hope he can get some help in jail...

I totally agree with Lynn B, why was Steven from Sask able to post such a rude comment, it is quite disturbing to know we have such creeps walking the streets of Moose Jaw..He should have been sent away immediately after the first incident, that's the problem...

You know, Steven might be on to something. In this case, some might say the Surprisingly Unexpected campaign is working.
