On Wednesday, the 62-year-old Moose Javian handed in nomination papers at city hall, making him a city councillor candidate for the upcoming municipal election.
Hackel was born and raised in Moose Jaw, but left to pursue a military career in 1969, starting as a combat arms officer. By the end of his 30-year career, Hackle retired, in 1999, as a military intelligence officer, briefing high government officials in Ottawa on various army issues.
According to Hackel, his military career provided plenty of operational military political experience.

In 2003, Hackel travelled to Afghanistan to help Afghanis conduct polls and surveys. He left in 2005.
After living in cities around the world, from Toronto to London, England, Hackel moved back to the city of his birth two years ago. He told the Times-Herald his years out of Saskatchewan give him a fresh look that can benefit council chambers.
