At age 26, Michael Wolverine is the youngest councillor candidate running in the upcoming municipal election.
However, the cofounder and past president of the Wakamow Aboriginal Community Association believes he has compacted a lot of life experience into his life and youth would provide council with an important perspective.
“I definitely think it’s an asset. Young minds and fresh ideas and thoughts are really what the city needs,” he told the Times-Herald, adding he also brings the perspective of a growing Moose Jaw demographic — young First Nations.

Although he has been a local SIAST marketing student since 2007, Wolverine is native to the English River First Nation reserve. He said the local aboriginal population is growing and he knows, from experience, how important plentiful affordable housing in a community is for many young newcomers.
The married father of three school-aged children said he chose to make Moose Jaw his home, because of the community’s friendliness and core values, which match his own.
