Glenn Hagel wants to tell a story.
“We have a phenomenal story, but in my opinion, quite frankly, we haven’t been telling it well,” he said during his platform announcement at the Tourism Information Centre on Friday. If elected on Oct. 28, the mayoral candidate intends to “tell the story” of Moose Jaw in a way that highlights and builds on the city’s assets.
Rather than try to copy what nearby cities do to encourage growth, Hagel said local economic development should focus on assets already in the Friendly City.
“Regina is always better at being Regina.”
What Moose Jaw already has, according to Hagel, is a strong surrounding agricultural industry, railway and highway systems passing through that makes the city vital to north-western North America transportation, as well as a high quality of life.

He said Moose Jaw’s family-friendly atmosphere makes it appealing for potential employers looking to retain workers.
“(A business) ought to be in a place that your employees want to be.”
To help tell the story of why Moose Jaw is a place for economic growth, Hegal wants to establish an economic development office in city hall, as well as increasing the city’s commitment to marketing and promoting Moose Jaw.
“We have to put more money into telling our story.”
Economic development was just one of six key platform points Hegal announced on Friday.

Hagel was cleared unlike the Saskatchewan party which is currently under investigation into how a political party gained access to a confidential police report.
