It was all about food Friday at the Growing together in Saskatchewan, food security conference. The conference which was held at Timothy Eaton Gardens and Siast Palliser Campus, featured a number of guest speakers, including Wayne Roberts. Roberts, who is the Toronto Food Policy Director, gave a lecture entitled “Taking control of our food, the local and global challenge.” One of the points Roberts focused on was the size of the food industry. He said people don’t realize that the food industry is more than just producers. “The government has divided the food industry into 101 silos.” Roberts said an example of one of these silos is the message that only two percent of the population producing the country’s food. The conference was a two day event and will continue Saturday at the palliser campus at 9 a.m..
