A Moose Jaw therapy group is helping raise awareness of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease by taking part in a virtual walk across Canada.
The Coast to Coast Challenge is run by The Lung Association and the aim is for people to collectively cover the distance from Gander, Newfoundland to Victoria, British Columbia through exercise of all sorts.
The distance is 7,500 kilometres of the Trans-Canada Trail.
The Five Hills Health Region Therapies Department is taking part in the challenge with the COPD class run for people with chronic pulmonary conditions.
It is a six week program which includes exercise and lectures.
Carla Pinkney, a physiotherapist, said the group was also marking World COPD day, which is on Wednesday.
“The aim is to raise awareness of COPD,” she said, “People can participate by recording how much they exercise.
“We record in minutes how much the group exercises from Nov.1 to Nov. 19. Our group has 2,100 minutes so far.
“It’s to encourage people to increase their physical activity,” she said.
