At the Town ‘N’ Country Mall in Moose Jaw Saturday, there were three volunteers for the Asperger/Autism Support Group who set up a table, and greeted shoppers as they got a head start on their holiday gift buying.
The volunteers, including member Wanda Wilder, were selling scarves with a colourful jigsaw puzzle patterns. According to Wilder, the pattern on the scarves represented the lives of those with autism.
“Their whole life is a puzzle, and that’s what we’re trying to get that out to people,” said Wilder.
Wilder, and other members that volunteer their time for the support group, are inspired by their own children that suffer from either autism
“We have children that have asperger’s or autism and it’s just been a fight from hell all their lives,” said member Wanda Wilder. “So we’re just trying to get the awareness out there so other people are understanding.”
