Christmas can be a lonely time of year for many people but Bobby’s Place in Moose Jaw is here to help.
This will be the fifth year the pub has hosted a free Christmas dinner for anyone in need.
Normally about 150-200 people enjoy a festive meal at the pub.
Kevin Haakenson, who owns Bobby’s Place with his wife Monica and also Freda Sorochuck, said the dinner is provided in an alcohol-free environment to encourage families.
“We suspend our licence for the day so it is for all ages,” he said, “There’s no liquor on display and we will not serve any alcohol with the Christmas dinner.”
Haakenson said the team just decided to start the Christmas dinner tradition one year.
“We felt there was a need for people that were lonely or hungry or single families having a hard time at Christmas and we wanted to make sure there was some place they could get a nice meal,” he said.
“It is free for anyone to attend. We do not turn anyone away. The only restriction is if someone came intoxicated. We’ve never had that yet.”
The pub is open at 3 p.m. and stays open until people stop coming, which is usually about 8 p.m.
