The money that’s left in a six-year-old municipal project fund account will be going towards the multiplex project.
During Monday’s council meeting, council approved designating remaining funds in the Raise the Roof account towards the multiplex.
In 2004, council adopted the Raise the Roof project, which aimed to collect donations towards a new local curling facility, as a municipal project. That campaign managed to raise approximately $39,000 towards a curling facility.
In 2006, Raise the Roof committee members wrote letters to all individuals and businesses who donated towards the campaign, advising them about the multiplex project, which would be the new facility to house a curling facility.
Therefore, committee stopped fundraising for a separate curling facility and told donors they could either receive a refund for the money they put towards the original campaign, or that money could go towards the community fundraising portion of the multiplex project budget.
The city ended up processing refunds for almost half the original campaign fundraising efforts, with approximately $20,000 left in the account. On Monday, council approved designating that remaining money to the multiplex.
