Thatcher Drive East has many things — box stores, portable billboards and access to the Moose Jaw Exhibition Grounds. And a city administration recommended project would see more of something else added to that area — green space beautification.
During Monday’s budget committee meeting, parks and recreation director Jody Hauta introduced possible street trees and traffic medians on Thatcher Drive East as one of the parks dedication reserve projects recommended for 2010.
Hauta said the city hired a landscape architect to help establish a plan as to how best spruce up Thatcher Drive.
According to a capital budget report, although there has been minimal park development at the city’s entrance, as well as a trail on the north side of the road and smaller trees planted, the city has an recommended enhancement plan that includes planting trees along the roadway from Tourism Moose Jaw to Main Street, as well as upgrading existing traffic medians to make them more appealing.
The Thatcher Drive project is just one of seven recommended green space development projects for 2010, which will cost a total of $1 million together.
