It’s a strong budget given the global economic downturn and one Palliser MP Ray Boughen said should benefit Moose Jaw and the rest of Canada.
Speaking after the Conservative government’s federal budget announcement on Thursday, Boughen told the Times-Herald the proposed budget (on which parliament must still vote) is a continuation of the two-year stimulus package the minority government set into motion last year, as part of recession recovery.
The $7.7 billion infrastructure funding announced on Thursday would continue providing federal money for such projects as Moose Jaw’s multiplex into the year ahead, Boughen said.
He also said the proposed budget includes $1.9 billion of post-secondary infrastructure funding, which could benefit Moose Jaw and area depending on local institutions’ applications towards that program.
As well, he said there is $75 million available for which cattle processing facilities, which could help with operations and upgrades. Boughen said a program like this might benefit the local XL Beef plant.
