A 27-year-old Moose Jaw man who pleaded guilty to charges in connection with an incident at the Park Hotel has been sentenced to six months in prison.
But because Joseph MacDougall has already served 55 days on remand, he was given three-and-a-half months credit during sentencing on Wednesday in Moose Jaw provincial court.
He now has two-and-a-half months left to serve in custody.
After he is released, he will be on probation for one year and will be subject to various conditions including undertaking treatment for substance abuse.
At previous hearings, MacDougall pleaded guilty to having his face masked while committing an offence, a charge of theft under $5,000 and a charge of possession of break-in instruments.
Last week, Judge Douglas Kovatch adjourned sentencing after he decided he needed more time to review the case.
On Wednesday, he said the fact MacDougall’s face was masked was an aggravating factor in the case.
He said it made it appear to be an attempt at a serious robbery although his actions were “certainly not well planned out or executed”.
