Now one of the most recognizable symbols of the Canadian Cancer Society, the yellow daffodil will once again make its presence known in the Friendly City, raising awareness and dollars for cancer.
Beginning March 24 the daffodils will be available at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital, Providence Place, Moose Jaw Co-op, Timothy Easton Gardens, Super Store, Wal-Mart, Sobeys and the Town ‘n’ Country Mall.
The bouquets of 10 will be sold for $6, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the locations listed and Saturday at the mall.
Gay Stewart, the society’s unit manager in Moose Jaw, said he suspects the fundraiser to raise about $27,000 for cancer research and treatment.
According to the Canadian Cancer Society’s website, six bunches of daffodils could buy 467 test tubes for cancer research.
Eleven bunches of daffodils could cover the cost of a volunteer driver driving a patient to treatment for 1 week and sixteen bunches of daffodils could cover the cost of a 2 nights stay at the patient lodge for clients receiving cancer treatment.
