Moose Jaw’s Siera Bearchell, also known as Miss Teen Saskatchewan and Miss Teen Canada-World, is busy packing her bags to start an adventure in Kenya.
Bearchell will leave for the Masai Mara early Tuesday morning to take part in a Free the Children program.
She will be teaching English, helping to build a school and learning about another culture.
Bearchell flies to Montreal and then onto Zurick, Switzerland, where she has another flight to Nairobi, Kenya’s capital.
It’s then an eight hour drive in an open top jeep to reach the Masai Mara.
Before leaving for her three week trip, Bearchell told the Times-Herald she was “very excited”.
“I’m going to be building a school and working with a clean water project so that will be really interesting. It’s a filter system.
“We go for a water walk with the women and children as they have to go different distances to get their water.”
“I also get to learn about the culture and teach English” she said. “We are staying in mud huts so that will be interesting.”
Bearchell said she is looking forward to just about everything and it is her first journey out of North America.
