Two Moose Jaw men who went missing in the northern Saskatchewan wilderness and were later located near Hudson Bay this weekend, both suffering somewhat from the elements but otherwise fine.
A 30-year-old male and 54-year-old male (who were familiar with the area) left from Armit on all-terrain vehicles on Saturday and were expected to return later in the day.
That evening, another male, who was with the two earlier, went looking for them when they didn’t return to Armit.
Hudson Bay RCMP became aware of the missing men at about 7 a.m. on Sunday. The detachment’s search manager and Hudson Bay Volunteer Search and Rescues search manager went looking in the area, assisted by Provincial Search and Rescue Team and Saskatchewan Civil Air Search and Rescue.
At approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday, RCMP and a local outfitter located one of the missing men on Silica Sand Road. He was able to provide information as to the location of his friend, who was located by boat shortly afterward.
Investigation determined both individuals’ ATVs got stuck. The two managed to locate a cabin and spent the night before the one of them left looking for rescue.
The men are still in the Armit area, conducting efforts to recover the ATV's.
