International Ride Day was celebrated by bikers and skateboarders at the Moose Jaw skate park June 21.
The celebration started at 1p.m. and ended at 9 p.m. It included a DJ and a food concession. Local riders from Sask. Cycling and Modern Evolution were scheduled to attend the event to showcase some cool tricks and teach anyone interested about safe riding practices.
The event was organized by Oliver Nichoson, the city of Moose Jaw parks and recreation department, and several local businesses. The goal was to raise awareness about skateboarding and BMXing in the Moose Jaw community.
Nichoson also wanted to send a message to the city that Moose Jaw could use a better skate park.
“It’s nice that skaters have somewhere to go,” said Nichoson.
“but the floor of the skate park would be better if it was cement and not asphalt.”
Nichoson was also the DJ for the event, supplied by Boh’s Cycle and Sporting Goods.
