Lindale Grade 1 students celebrated a learning success with bubbly cider, cake and matching t-shirts Monday.
According to their teacher Allison Shillington the 29 students worked hard all year to learn 540 sight words. These are words that are more difficult as they can’t be “sounded-out.” They must be learned by sight.
The Grade 1 students began learning sight words in early October and completed all 540 words earning them a green t-shirt which proudly proclaims “I’m a Smarty-Partardy!”
“They are hard words because you don’t know them at first . . . but then you do,” said student Ashley Mandan.
Some of the words the children learned were: the, government and monkey.
