The multiplex board of directors selection committee, during Monday’s regular council meeting, will present community representative nominations for the four available seats on that committee.
Council must choose four representatives from the following candidates: Candis Kirkpatrick, Terry Hardy, Kelly Remple, Genelle Payant, Darrell Markin, Harvey Armstrong, Grant Kosior, Susan Flett, Lloyd Hackel, Kurt Saladana, Barry Webster, Roberta Fonger, Lori Bernt and John McMorris.
The selection committee (consisting of Councillors Terry Coleman, Heather Eby and Fraser Tolmie) is requesting the two nominees receiving the highest number of votes be appointed to the board until Dec. 31, 2012 and the two nominees with the next highest number of votes be appointed for a term expiring Dec. 31, 2011.
Here are some of the other items on the agenda for Monday’s council meeting at city hall:
• Council will consider an application from Helvetia Farms Ltd. President Wally Meili, regarding approval for construction and operation of a retail outlet building (for materials and supplies, hardware, tools, home furnishings, lawn and garden supplies) at 661 Thatcher Drive East.
• There are several bylaws which council is to consider on Monday, including the introduction of a bylaw to adopt the official community plan, which is necessary for the city to adopt a new zoning bylaw.
Council is also considering a bylaw to establish the multiplex operating board.
• Gerry Carline plans to address council regarding the Peacock War Memorial, which Prairie South School Division is allowing Carline to restore.
Carline said he made an application to Veterans Affairs Canada Memorial Restoration fund, which will pay for 50 per cent of the restoration, which is estimated to cost $11,000.
Therefore, Carline is requesting city assistance in restoring the statue, at an amount of $3,000.
• The Moose Jaw Exhibition Company is requesting the city provide funding in the amount of one-third the cost for fence enhancements on the Exhibition’s south side. The cost to the city would be $17,000.
• Greg Nichol, Design Sign Company president, is requesting council support the establishment of a sign corridor along Highway Two, within the city.
• Coun. Don Mitchell is requesting to make a presentation regarding the South Central Planning Transportation Planning Committee and its five-year rolling plan for highway construction.
• Immediately following Monday’s council meeting, there will be an executive committee meeting, in which councillors and the mayor will consider various matters, such as the municipal green plan, a sewer-line replacement-cost enquiry and a letter regarding the 2010 Saskatchewan Winter Games.
Also, the committee will receive a petition from Double J Mobile Home Park residents, regarding a bylaw implementing license fee changes for mobile home owners in local trailer courts.
