During Monday’s executive committee meeting, the committee approved, in principal, six recommendations from the municipal advisory committee on the environment’s proposed municipal green plan.
Committee chairwoman Doris Dunphy said the draft is just an advisory document, which the committee has worked on over the past several months and aims to increase environmental considerations in municipal activities.
The first recommendation calls for the development of a standard set for sustainability and the environment locally in regards to future city policy, projects and developments.
According to Dunphy, it’s important the city consider the environmental impact of developments, rather than merely the economic impact.
The second recommendation calls for carbon greenhouse emission reductions in city operations and promotion and development of public, bicycle and pedestrian transportation.
