The bridge crossing Buffalo Pound Lake north of Moose Jaw has partially collapsed.
According to an RCMP media release, shortly before 7 a.m. on Saturday the bridge on Highway 2 north of Moose Jaw, at the Buffalo Pound Causeway, partially collapsed.
There were no injuries resulting from the incident, but a crane that was working on the bridge at the time collapsed into the causeway as well.
Engineering personnel continue to investigate the cause of the collapse, which has resulted in roadblocks at the junction of Highway 2 and Highway 11, as well as at Highway 2 and Highway 42.
Police cannot determine when the bridge might reopen.
Bob Crabbe lives out on the north shore of Buffalo Pound Lake, near where the bridge collapsed. He told the Times-Herald the incident didn’t actually even awake him when it happened early Saturday morning.
“I didn’t hear a thing,” he said, adding there are probably going to be some cabin owners who have trouble getting to and from Moose Jaw as long as the bridge is out.
