It is “last chance Tuesday” for Alex Getzlaf and the people of Saskatchewan to determine the answer to the question “Where is Riderville?”
Voting for the contest on www.riderville.com ends tonight at midnight. Avonlea is in the running for the title along with Nipawin, Unity, Weyburn and Yorkton.
While no numbers have been revealed indicating how many votes have been cast or which community is in the lead, Getzlaf, the mayor of Avonlea, thinks his community has as good a shot as any, despite its small population. In the video section of the website, Avonlea’s submission video has had about 6,800 more views than the nearest competitor, Nipawin.
“If that relates to votes, then I think we’re sitting pretty, but you never know,” said Getzlaf.
“I think we’ve got a pretty good shot at it and with all of Moose Jaw’s help, I think that’s going to put us over the top. It’s been really positive.”
The winner will be revealed at halftime of Sunday’s Roughriders game in Regina. Afterward, win or lose, Avonlea is hosting a Roughriders street dance after the game.
