The causeway bridge has reopened.
Crews have fixed the portion of the Highway 2 causeway bridge over Buffalo Pound Lake, which collapsed under the weight of a construction crane on Saturday. The bridge re-opened to motorists at 11:00 a.m.
The Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure advises motorists to expect delays at this location as vehicles will once again be accommodated through the construction zone on the single northbound lane of the bridge as traffic lights direct traffic.
Construction began two weeks ago to replace the timber and concrete bridge structure, originally built in 1963, with a steel and concrete structure.
The bridge was inspected in 2007 and again in 2009 and, although the structure was determined safe for motorists, the ministry proactively identified the bridge for replacement.
As is the case now, traffic was moving through the construction zone on the northbound lane of the bridge during construction.
