On March 31, 2009, Moose Jaw Regional Economic Development Authority ceased operations, making way for a new larger enterprise region.
Over a year later, South Central Enterprise Region (SCER) CEO Deb Thorn told the Times-Herald her organization has been busy the past year and continues to strive for increased business activity in Moose Jaw and the surrounding region.
“It’s all about increasing the wealth of the community and region,” she said, adding unlike the previous REDA, SCER doesn’t divert resources to community development, but focuses entirely on the economy.
According to Thorn, when a community’s economy is strong, it makes the conditions for community development far more feasible. Therefore, concentrating on economic development is the best thing SCER can do for the community as a whole.
Among SCER’s many tasks include providing economic development services for the City of Moose Jaw.
