Trees, please!
The City of Moose Jaw is hoping the potted shrubs and trees that have been decorating Moose Jaw yards throughout the summer will find a permanent home that is not a garbage bin come winter. A new program through the Parks and Recreation department is offering to relocate the plants to city parks, playgrounds, and cemeteries.
Parks gardener Daily Lennox heard of people having no space to plant their potted trees come fall and thought it was a shame to see the plants go to waste.
"Instead of letting them die, we will gladly come pick them up and plant them in one of the parks. If it's alive, I'll take it," she said.
If people have potted trees or shrubs with no plan to keep them alive throughout the year, Lennox encourages them to phone 694-4439 to arrange to have them picked up. Only living plants will be picked up and plants should be in disposable pots — empty pots will not be returned.
All plants must be picked up before Nov. 1.
"The earlier the better," said Lennox, "Before the ground freezes we need to pick them up. We need time to find a spot, dig them in, and water them."
