It was the biggest day yet for the SaskEnergy Big Bike.
On Aug. 18, representatives from Mosaic and Yara got together to compete in the 'Hard Hat Challenge,' a head-to-head race on the 30-seat bikes at Mosaic's Belle Plaine facility. The resulting race served as an exciting wrap up to year-long fundraising activities.
And while the race result ultimately did not matter, the two companies' donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation did — $126,310. Team Mosaic nearly doubled its record-setting donation total from last year in breaking the single-ride provincial record again, raising $111,461.
The day's individual fundraising leader was Bard Rustad of Mosaic, who brought in $1,717.15 in pledges.
The two companies have been the top fundraising teams for years, according to Melissa Marshall, pledge programs manager with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan. The funds came from fundraising events throughout the year, corporate matches, individual pledge drives, and donations from equipment sales.
"It's a lot of fun," said Marshall. "The teams really get into it."
The Big Bike campaign traveled across the province this summer, taking part in many events. The total raised for the season was $490,403.56.
