A 42-year-old Holdfast man was shot and killed by an RCMP officer on Wednesday night.
At approximately 10 p.m., a male RCMP member from the Craik detachment attended to a residence in Holdfast in relation to a criminal code investigation.
While at the residence, a physical altercation occurred between the officer and the male resident. During this, the RCMP member discharged his firearm at the male, hitting him.
The man died on the scene.
The RCMP requested on Wednesday night that the Regina Police Service (RPS) "conduct an independent external investigation into the circumstances surrounding the discharge of the firearm and the death of the 42-year-old male," according to a press release.
The RPS will report the results of their investigation to the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General.
In addition to the independent external investigation, the RCMP has requested the Ministry of Justice appoint an independent observer.
