City opens pre-season skating early
The City of Moose Jaw has opened the Kinsmen Arena two weeks earlier this year for increased access to arena programs and services in September, a release states. The public is invited to participate in additional public skate times on Sept. 22 and 25 from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m.; and on Sept. 28 from 8:15 to 9:15 p.m. Regular public skating times will begin Oct. 1 at the Kinsmen and Bert Hunt Arenas, and Oct. 15 at the Wally Boshuck Arena. Admission is $2.30 for children three to 12, $2.70 for youth 13 to 17, $4.05 for adults over 18, and $8.65 for families.

Moose Jaw's Sierra Bearchell, 19, received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in Saskatoon Wednesday night. She was one of 57 Saskatchewan residents recognized for their achievements and contributions to the country. The Moose Jaw Fire Department responded to three calls for service between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday.
Thursday morning, engines were dispatched to the 1100 block of Currie Crescent to respond to an activated fire alarm. Engines also responded to activated alarms at 15 Wing.
Thursday afternoon, engines responded to a hazardous materials call to remove used needles in the 1000 block of Seventh Avenue Northwest.
The Moose Jaw Police Service responded to 37 calls for service between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday, including four reports of hit-and-run, a three vehicle collision, a two vehicle collision, a report of an erratic driver, a report of theft, a report of an impaired driver and a report of an unwanted guest.
Police issued a ticket for the three vehicle collision, detained the unwanted guest in cells for public intoxication, charged the impaired driver, and issued seven warrants for failure to appear.
The theft and report of an erratic driver remain under investigation.
