In a mall that has seen its share of businesses come and go, one constant for the past 40 years has been Calico Junction.
Although it has changed locations and names over the years, the family owned and operated business always remained consistent when it came to the product they offer and the service they give.
“We have always worked hard at offering the people that come here great food and great service,” said Calico founder Glady Pierce.
Pierce said when she first started her business 40 years ago, she had no idea what it would transform into, nor did she imagine it continuing on as a family business.
Saturday, as the company celebrated its 40th anniversary, Pierce said she was extremely proud to have three generations on hand and working.
“It really is quite (neat) to see the business continue to be successful and see my family all working together.”
As for what continues to bring the people back, Pierce said “it has to be the food.”
She said Calico has always been known for its food and over the years it has continued to broaden its menu, offering a wider variety and selection to its patrons.
As part of the event those who came down where offered cake, cotton candy and of course great food.
“This really is happening because of the support we continue to receive from the community.”
She said from the moment they opened right into the afternoon, the community had again been showing their support, congratulating the family and enjoying some food.
“It’s great, people just keep coming back.”
Pierce said she is extremely proud to be the longest running business in the mall and hopes to continue serving mall patrons for many more years down the road.
She said as long as there is a mall, there will be a Calico Junction.
