The sign welcoming visitors to Mortlach
Saturday’s craft and trade show will help decorate Mortlach.
“It’s actually a fundraiser for … the Mortlach Community Development Association and Agricultural Society,” said chairperson Marg Apperley. “Our mission is sort of beautifying Mortlach. So we take care of the things that are going to make the town nice and appealing for the new people coming in so that our village taxpayers don’t have to find the money for that.”
The annual craft and trade show will take place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mortlach Hall.
The association puts on the Saskatoon Berry Festival each year in Mortlach and has done other projects such as new sidewalks in front of the village office and on Main Street.
At the annual craft and trade show, there will be 23 vendors at the show with a variety of items for sale for people to do some Christmas shopping. Those include mittens, scarves, Tupperware, handmade items and homemade baking.
There will be a lunch served at noon and the Mortlach graduates will have a chili and bun supper at the end of the event.
“We’re running it right into our Sparkle Up, which is our big community night when we light our community Christmas tree and whatnot, so we’re kind of filling the whole day,” said Apperley. “We do it every year. Last year we had it in conjunction with the (Canadian Pacific Holiday) Train because the train came on a Saturday.”
Also, most of the stores and restaurants in Mortlach will be open for business.
“It’s proven to be a very good (fundraiser). I’m feeling like we’ve been doing it close to 10 years now,” said Apperley. “We’re hoping the weather isn’t going to keep people away. We try to get as many (vendors) as we can that are different.”
She added the show has mostly of local vendors, but there are a few vendors from Moose Jaw that will be there as well.
“It’s just kind of a fun day to come and do some shopping and visit with people,” said Apperley. “It’s a nice way to get people into town to see the rest of Mortlach.”
