RuBarb Productions is staging a special night for the Friendly City with its production of Some Enchanted Evening.

RuBarb Productions' Some Enchanted Evening will take the Mae Wilson Stage from Feb. 13 to 15. Pictured, Evie Koop Sawatzky, artistic director of RuBarb Productions, poses with a parasol and several costumes at the company's office.

"There will be favourite songs from a wide variety of shows, performed by a number of people who have performed with RuBarb in the past, and some newbies as well," said Evie Koop Sawatzky, artistic director for the company.

"This will be a classic, elegant and romantic evening of musical theatre's love songs through the years."

Billed as a musical revue, Some Enchanted Evening will feature numbers from "a lot of different shows," said Sawatzky.

"When people do a show, they might like all of the music, but sometimes there are a few songs that just grate at them," she said. "This one pulls out just the favourites."

The production falls over three evenings, beginning Feb. 13 and ending Feb. 15. All three performances begin at 7:30 p.m.

The timing — Valentine's Day and the days preceding and following it — is no coincidence, as the performance is being directed at least partially toward Moose Jaw's couples.

"That's definitely who we're aiming it toward … whether they're celebrating many years together, or are off to a new start," said Sawatzky. "But that doesn't mean it won't be a fun evening for a teenager just getting involved in musical theatre, or someone who wants to see a good show."

And regardless of who attends, all guests will be supporting a fledgling ambition to put Moose Jaw on the map for live theatre performances.

"The support of the productions we're putting on is enabling us to hire professional actors from across our province, and bring them home from across the country," said Evie Koop Sawatzky, artistic director for RuBarb. "It's creating a legacy of theatre here in Moose Jaw."

Tickets to Some Enchanted Evening are available online at, by e-mail at, or through the RuBarb Productions box office at 321 Main St. N. A complete dinner package in conjunction with the Temple Gardens Mineral Spa is also available.
