Art Guild AGM a chance to meet, socialize

The Moose Jaw Art Guild's (MJAG) Annual General Meeting (AGM) held Saturday would have been the first for many of its members.

"We have a lot of new members who have just joined in the past two months," said Jean Bell, president of the guild. "They're already pitching in (to the process)."

According to Bell, the AGM offers an opportunity for members of the MJAG to get together and socialize about art and the guild itself.

In 2014, she added, the guild would be putting up two posters in the AGM meeting hall and encouraging guests to come up and discuss both what they liked in the previous season and what they would like to see the guild do in the upcoming season.

Bell said she was hoping to see feedback from the newer members, who she described as "fun."

"IIt's fun for all of us to have so many new members — especially those who have been here a long time and part of this group — to see the new members coming in with fresh ideas," she said. "It lets us know, in a fun way, what members are looking for."

And, ultimately, working in new ideas is vital for the continued success of the guild, she said.

"That's part of the artistic community: challenging yourself to new experiences and to try new things," said Bell. "That is how we grow as an organization and as individual artists."
