Police are waiting on the owner of the Overseas Restaurant.

Officers responded to an alarm at the restaurant Tuesday and discovered what appeared to be a roof collapse.

"The ceiling, and it's believed to be the roof as well, have collapsed. The building was secure and there's no indication of anybody inside," said Sgt. Devon Oleniuk. "We're waiting for the owner to attend so that that can be verified."

A sign on the front of the restaurant said it was closed for renovations as of Feb. 23.

Sgt. Oleniuk said police had no estimates on the cost of the damage. Police also had not determined a cause of the collapse.

"I'm not sure how extensive it will be … the roof has likely collapsed, not simply the ceiling, however we have contacted the city and are waiting for their engineer and building inspector to determine those things," he said.

Gas and power to the building have been shut off.
