Local writer wins two screenwriting awards

Travis Neufeld has had a good week.

The Moose Jaw-based writer has received double recognition for his short screenplay, The Tinwife, including a $1,000 prize from the CineQuest Screenwriting Competition awarded Sunday.

The announcement was made as part of the CineQuest Festival in California. Neufeld travelled there to attend.

"I almost didn't go. Why would I go all the way to California?" Neufeld told the Times-Herald Wednesday. "One of the people I worked with convinced me … I went, and being one of the top ten, I guess I didn't realize how significant it was until I got there.

"Everyone was treating me like I was royalty and congratulating me," he added. "I didn't know how big it was, but it's seriously a big festival. Neil Gaiman was there, so that has to account for something."
