Maintenance crews work on the main pool of the Kinsmen Sportsplex. The pool was closed on Nov. 28, 2013 because of water colour, resulting in the inability to see the bottom of the deep end of the pool.
The city sent out a press release Wednesday afternoon noting the closure, which is required to complete initial operational maintenance procedures.
Recommended by the city's pool consultant, WTI Inc., the work will include correcting the water clarity issue in the pool.
During the temporary closure, the administration desk will remain open during normal business hours. Moreover, the closure does not affect the Kinsmen Arena, lobby or concession areas.
Showers at the facility will, however, remain open during the duration of the closure.
"The procedure that is being undertaken is the first step in improving the water quality at the Kinsmen Sportsplex based on recommendations from the pool consultant that recently completed a review of the operational procedures, the mechanical components of the pool and pool water chemistry," Jody Hauta, director of parks and recreation, said in a press release.
