Doug Campbell, Mosaic Place's Director of Business Development was nominated for a North American entertainment facility management award.
Doug Campbell, 35, Mosaic Place's Director of Business Development is one of 30 finalists nominated in the industry leading publication, Venues Today.
Voting for the award closed last week and votes were cast by both Campbell’s peers across North American, as well as by the public.
Campbell said he feels “honoured” to be nominated, especially because it is a North America wide competition.
“There have been (individuals) that have been nominated from Barclays Centre in New York to Madison Square Gardens and personnel from those facilities.”
Campbell has been a part of bringing in huge names to Mosaic Place, including the likes of ZZ Top and Carrie Underwood and he has booked big sporting events as well, such as the Telus Cup and the 2015 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
Despite his success, Campbell believes he was nominated because of the cooperation and hard work of the operations and event management teams at Mosaic Place.
“Here it is a team effort. It’s more than just myself that is making those things happen,” he said. “Although there is an individual name on the award, what we have accomplished here doesn’t just happen with just one person."
Campbell said Mosaic Place being a brand new facility has been key in bringing in big events.
“It’s a brand new concert market place within western Canada and that’s certainly attractive to different types of events,” he said, before adding that it’s also about promoting the city. “We are selling Moose Jaw to the world and selling the benefits of coming to Moose Jaw."
When Campbell joined Mosaic Place in March 2011 as the Director of Business Development he had over a decade of experience in Sports management and events with the Lethbridge Hurricanes and the Regina Pats.
This experience in the industry set Campbell up for success at Mosaic Place.
“In any industry relationships that we form are very key, whether it’s partnerships within sports marketing or partnerships with agents and promoters.”
The winner of the competition will receive their award at a ceremony in Dallas, Texas in June.
