Local poet Jessy Lee Saas reads her poem Shoeless at city council at a 2013 council meeting.

Monday’s council meeting started things off with a taste of local poetry.

Greg Simison, Moose Jaw poet, read some of his poetry at the meeting after city administration invited him to do so for National Poetry Month in April.

It is also part of the Mayor’s Poetry City Challenge issued by Mayor Michael Fougere of Regina.

The poetry challenge is a partnership between the City of Regina, the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild and the League of Canadian Poets.

In 2013, Jessy Lee Saas read her poem and in 2012, Robert Currie, poet laureate, read his poem.
