Infrastructure, supporting small businesses and affordable housing were only some of the many topics touched on at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) conference.

“It touched on a number of things,” said Mayor Deb Higgins. “It’s always good to get out and see what other communities are doing.”

Higgins, along with Coun. Patrick Boyle, Coun. Heather Eby and Coun. Candis Kirkpatrick, attended the FCM conference that took place this past weekend in Niagara Falls.

Higgins said at the plenary session of the conference , the most important resolution revolved around accessing the Building Canada Fund (BCF). There have been many delays and not enough information regarding the launch of the federal government’s 10-year BCF.

Another session focused on how to encourage small businesses in a community. Those included strategies to reduce red tape.
