Donna Lee Howes believes more people are attending this year's Festival of Words than last year.

Festival of Words

"Individual ticket sales are up," said the executive director of the Saskatchewan Festival of Words. "People find it charming."

The 18th annual festival began at 9 a.m. Thursday and will run until Sunday at noon. Thursday morning there were three sessions, each three hours in length, as well as an hour-long storytime for kids aged four years and up.

Some of the events have been sold out for a number of weeks, said Howes, such as this afternoon's Great Big Book Club with Miriam Toews who will discuss her book All My Puny Sorrows. That has been sold out for three weeks.

Other events, such as Friday night's poetry slam, still have tickets available. There will be a total of 60 events taking place over the four days.
