Sustainable development, new business and a new hospital are among the issues Lloyd Meier would like to tackle if elected to Moose Jaw's city council.Meier said he feels Moose Jaw is in need of a more diverse industrial sector. "Right now we are lucky because our tourism industry is booming, but we are unlucky because we have lost the pork plant and Raider Industries," and layoffs have been made at XL Beef and General Cable, Meier said.

"So, we are losing some business here in town and we need to look at ways to get it back and continue growing."

Meier said he would like to see some new ideas come out of council in the way of attracting new business - not necessarily competing businesses, just new ones.

He said to attract new businesses, a city needs to have a good infrastructure base.

He said although Moose Jaw's infrastructure is not all that bad at this time, there are areas that could use some work.

"The city's infrastructure has crumbled a bit over the long years."

An example of this, said Meier, is in the city's northwest, were a new development project has been put on hold due to a water pressure problem.
