In 1969, Moose Jaw’s Herb Linsley was the youngest person ever elected to local city councillor (serving until 1974). Forty years later, the 62-year-old Sobeys meat cutter hopes once again to serve in council chambers.

“I have experience and I know how the system works,” he told the Times-Herald on Tuesday, one day after filing nomination papers at city hall.

Linsley, who also served 20-years as a local public school board trustee, was born and raised in Moose Jaw. Aside from political involvement, he has over 25-years experience owning local businesses.

“I think that gives me insight as to what small business owners need in order to prosper.”

According to Linsley, he has several areas of concern that lead him to run in the upcoming municipal election. His interests include promoting economic development, developing an inventory of serviced residential lots and maintaining fiscal responsibility at city hall.

Wow, forty years since Herb last sat on Moose Jaw city council. I think he deserves another shot to show us if he learned anything in those forty years. My guess is he has.
