He believes in fiscal responsibility, attracting new jobs to the city, improving core infrastructure and maintaining integrity on council. These are some of the reasons Coun. Brian Swanson is seeking another term on Moose Jaw city council.

“I still think I have something to contribute,” he told the Times-Herald on Tuesday, one day after filing nomination papers at city hall.

The 52-year-old incumbent candidate said he believes in good public policy and refusing “capitulation to private interest.”

Among the issues for which the four-term councillor would advocate over the next three years (if re-elected), Swanson, who worked with the hospital for many years, said he would continue to advocate for major improvements at Moose Jaw Union Hospital, which haven’t occurred in almost 40 years.

“I still think I have something to contribute." - Brian Swanson

He noted the amount of government money planned to repair and expand the current facility is less than the smaller community of Humbolt received to build a new facility.

Love him or hate him Brian certainly does generate a lot of interst in what would normally be a mundane subject....I'll be voting for him simply because he is a pain in the butt to a certain group of Old Boys that have for too long stunk up the community with their everything downtown gibberish....

STU as in stupid, Brians delaying tactics have cost us. One vote, he has put the facts and figures forward to no avail. When was the last time any of council challenged his figures and facts? They haven't, because he has them right, if that is holding up progress so be it, at least the citizens know the truth, no smoke and mirrors. How about when Brian tried to get XL to put in a committment to stay in our city before we spent millions on the sewers for them? Sounds like a great idea, cosidering we will never see that open again. Some voters are so STUPID because they don't like the actual facts, which Brian provides. Thank God for a councillor who actually looks out for the people. Look at McDrain and company have done, NOTHING, their legacy is to put a Pink Elephant in the downtown, no parking, no money, no brains.

No thanks Swanson, you don't have my vote. I am tired of this councilor holding this city and its progress back. We need people that will move this city forward, unlike Swanson who likes "things the way they are".

It is so ironic that a candidate whose record is that of negativity and opposing everything has announced his intentions of asking to be reelected on a day where the weather has taken a change for the worst indicative of his attitude as a councillor during his time...Mr. Swanson your record alone has cost our fair city millions of dollars due to your opposition to what the majority asked for last election...you and your NIMBY supporters are hindering our city from reaching our potential...When I read how other candidates have hidden agendas which is hyperbole to the nth degree it is you who has the hidden agenda as if the city prospers your properties and taxes would cost you more..Your record is that of the negative and you have never brought forth any new ideas to help grow our city in any discernable manner... Anybody But Swanson or ABS is my belief as you Mr. Swanson are a determent to Moose Jaw prosperity and your presence on our public stage does not bode well for our future.

Re Poor 40% against - well I didn't vote for Swanson or Luhning but I have to put up with them - such is democracy. The rest of your post is gibberish, especially the pledge comment - shows a real lack of knowledge about how big sponsorships actually operate. You're so out of your league buddy it ain't funny. People like you are just intimidated by progress.

Brian. Thank you for running. With the many residents who seem to follow like lemmings over the cliffs after being duped by the ill conceived but well sold lame plans like the Multimess down town it is refreshing knowing that some one who looks into and investigates the facts and costs and options rather than accepting the "smoke and Mirror" lines accepted by some ex and hopefully soon to be ex councillors will be on council attempting their best to look out for the best interests of "All" the residents of the City of Moose Jaw and not just a few.

ANNA1- 40 percent against. They can't even get 2300 in the Civic Center, I suppose that is Mr.Swanson's fault too. Should be a laugh in -40 the attendance at 1200. Where is the private sector money? Lots of pledges, no substance. So Mr. Swanson can't be paid off by some locals, that makes him bad. Great job Brian

Dude -you're out to lunch, we had a referendum on the MULTIPLEX as it now stands and the result was 60% FOR the project. Talk about a selective memory... Seymour - you can call out soccer all you want but that facilty with a sport court can also serve lacrosse, inline hockey, gymnastics, etc. that all inclusive aspect was the lynch pin in federal and provincial funding. Criticize downtown all you want but 'downtown revitalization' was also essential to access funding from both the private and public sector.

I wasn't trying to call out soccer, I was stating that the soccer facility is no where near the biplex. This could have been built years ago along with a new rink at the Civic Centre location. It would have all been up and running by now.But there would have been a few downtown property owners still stuck with their unwanted land downtown so of course that wouldn't have worked. As far as the soccer facility serving other sports, I'm pretty sure the soccer assoc. has plans for year round use. Lacrosse , inline are already adequately served in this city, unless enrollment numbers expode all of a sudden. I'm more concerned about losing the minor hockey ice at the civic centre for a new rink that the kids won't be playing in (unless they are in the WHL). And as far as "downtown revitalization", I thought thats what the spa and cultural centre were to accomplish. What multi million dollar project will we need in 2015 when it's realised that the biplex didn't bring hunders of jobs and people to the city?? Downtown was essential as you say, but to ensure certain business people cashed in big by selling their otherwise devalued property to the city.

Mr Swanson would be much more credible as the "taxpayers advocate" if he wasn't so obviously advocating his self interest. His return would guarantee no unanimous decisions by council and he deserves the accolades of the successful completion of the multiplex, which owes a fair portion of it's cost to his delaying tactics. This forum would lose a great deal of participation were his bid unsuccessful. In an election, one can win, and still be a loser. Yes, vote for Swanson - if only for the entertainment value.

Its easy to sit back and be critical,..Its easy to give only 1/2 of the facts to suit your own point of view...YUP we know that Swanson wants to control costs and make cuts...BUT what exactly has Swanson done to promote business?, Tourism, Infrastructure, Community, be a team player?.....I dont think he's done a darn thing that could be considered positive or in the interests of growth for the city....Perhaps if Swanson could come up with a new theme I might consider him...BUT so far the stuff I've seen out of him hasn't changed in decades.........I will not be voting for Swanson or Mitchell......

Re Broke in MJ - you get YOUR facts straight. Luhning put forward the DUOPLEX proposal 3 years ago on the civic center site which only served two sports hockey and curling. It was not a holistic solution and it severely limited access to federal and provincial funding because it didn't benefit a wide cross section of users. It may have been a quick decision but it would have been short sighted. Like Swanson runnign for mayor on the platform that he would turn the old anat into some mickey mouse spa, or our current kinsmen aquatic center pool that isn't large enough for any competitions of significance. but hey we saved a buck in the day....

This Duoplex that Luhning proposed we put in the Civic Center site is actually what the majority of people in Moose Jaw voted on, not what is currently being built downtown, for an inflated price, caused by the rest of council.

if this guy gets voted in again, I'll lose my mind. He is good for nothing, he has never done a thing for this city but oppose everything. Seriously Brian, what have you accomplished for this city... besides cost us more money. You are a joke, and so are the people that support you. I hope your cult of support sees you for who you are... Useless, useless and some more useless on the side.

THANKS; how is it Mr. Swanson gets blames for everything? He has one vote! This thing would have been in operation now if it weren't for Boughen, Beesley, Leipert and the clowns of council wanting it downtown. Luhning put it before council 3 years ago to build at the Civic Center and they turned it down. Get your facts straight before blowing off untruths!!!!

Thanks for asking for research that we didn't need on almost every project in the city. Ultimately you instigaing these delays was a contributing factor in cost increases especially the Multiplex project. If it was named the Swanson-plex we could be reminded everytime we walk in the front doors of the reason we'll be paying for it longer than the original cost projection. I look forward to all new faces on council to take us forward. Truly if he was that interested in providing jobs he could travel at his own expense to try can convince some sort of industry to set up here.

No hidden agenda?????? Swanson owns a ton of property in MJ, his agenda is to do NOTHING so HIS property taxes don't go up. He's not interested in growing the city, economic development etc, he's only interested in his own wallet. Where's your sidekick Dawn? clock's ticking....
