In a small hall at 303 Coteau St. W. on Thursday evening, Moose Jaw mayoral candidate Ernie Penney spoke to a 27-person crowd, outlining his campaign platform for the 2009 municipal election.

“It’s been a dream of mine,” he said — about running for mayor — during the platform announcement, adding many people in the community have met his decision to seek local elected office with enthusiasm and congratulations.

“Lots of people are coming up to me on the streets saying, ‘Hey Ernie, you’re doing a good job.’”

Major platform issues Penney discussed during Thursday’s informal gathering included increasing affordable housing, attracting new business and growth to the community, as well as campaigning for another hospital in Moose Jaw.

On the affordable housing issue, Penney said city council must look at approaching the matter as a team effort, partnering with businesses and other organizations to create more local housing options specifically for the city’s poor.

“The main idea behind it is this is for people of low income.”

I am wondering what sort of an impact the Theo Fleury book will have on this election??? Considering what he is saying happened and the Old Boys keeping quiet about it???? Could their candidate get the boot and open it up to a new voice????

Good luck Ernie. I really think that chuckles will win unfortunately but all the best. You might not be the talker that Hagel is but you are more likely to do what you say as ol' Glenn is a big bag of hot air that talks up a storm but does nothing to back it up and that he has proved. The kinsmen forum hopefully has a time limit because once Glen gets wound up he's not likely to be quiet long enough to let anyone else get a word in. He's like the energizer bunny he just keeps talking and talking and people just fall for that yap of his and voters will no doubt buy it
